Manage and Transfer Bookmarks Across Browsers: Chrome, Edge, and More

This guide walks you through how to export bookmarks from Google Chrome, import them into Microsoft Edge, and sync bookmarks across different browsers for a seamless browsing experience.


Export Bookmarks from Google Chrome

  1. Open the Google Chrome browser on your computer.

  2. Click on the three dots on the top right hand of your screen. Then choose Bookmarks. Then choose Bookmark manager.

  3. Click on the three bars on the top right hand of the bookmark window.

  4. Then choose export bookmarks.

  5. The file window will open. Save the favorites to your OneDrive at a chosen location and save the file as an “HTML Document”. Do not leave this file on your old workstation before wiping the computer.


Done!


Sync Microsoft Edge

  1. Sign in to Microsoft Edge: Launch Microsoft Edge on your device. In the top-left corner, you'll find the profile icon (a silhouette of a person). Click on it and select "Sign in" from the drop-down menu.

  2. Sign in with your Microsoft Account which typically is firstname.lastname@company.com
    Enter your Microsoft account email address and password, and click "Sign in."

  3. Once you're signed in, click on the profile icon again, and now there might be a green text which says “Sync is on”. If you see this text, You’re done! If not, click the cogwheel in the top-right of the menu.

  4. On the left, enter the “Profile” section and then select “Sync“.

  5. Here you can select “Sync“ or “Re-sync“. This might take a few moments, and you might need to restart your browser. Once it’s synced, make sure the toggle switch for "Favorites" or "Bookmarks" is turned on. You can also choose to sync other data like passwords, history, and open tabs if desired.

 

  1. Manage Bookmarks: You can manage your bookmarks by clicking on the bookmark icon (a star) in the Edge toolbar. From there, you can organize your bookmarks into folders, edit their names, delete bookmarks, and more. Any changes you make will be synced across all devices you are logged into.

Import Bookmarks to Edge from Other Browsers

  1. Open the Microsoft Edge browser on your computer.

  2. Click on the three horizontal dots located in the top-right corner of the browser window and then select “Settings“.

  3. Click on "Profiles" located in the left sidebar. Then, click on the "Import browser data" link.

  4. Here, you get a list of browsers you can import data from. In our case, we want to import from Google Chrome

  5. Select what data you want to import from Google Chrome, and continue by pressing “Import“.

  6. Verify Imported Bookmarks once the import process finishes, you should see a confirmation message. To check if your bookmarks have been successfully imported, click on the three horizontal dots in the top-right corner of Microsoft Edge and select "Favorites" from the menu. You should now see your imported bookmarks from Google Chrome.

  1. If the browser you’re looking for is not on the list at step 4, you can select the “Choose what to import”.

  2. In the drop-down-Menu at the top, Select “Favorites or Bookmarks HTML file” and the click on “Choose file”. This will open the file explorer, where to will select the HTML file you exported from your other browser.
