Update computer using Dell Command Update

This guide will show how to use the Dell Command Update application to update your computer's hardware components.

NOTE!
Depending on how many updates there are. This can take up to 1+ hours. Once the updates have started you CANNOT cancel them. Press install and wait. The charger MUST be connected at all times.


Using Dell Command Update

To launch Dell Command Update, click the windows logo down in the left corner or press the windows key on your keyboard. Then search for “Dell Command Update” and start the program.

If the Dell Command Update application does not appear check the following:
1. Is your computer from the manufacturer “DELL”?
2. Is the name spelt correctly? What happens if you only type “Dell”
3. It might not be installed, to install the Dell Command Update application please refer to this guide:

Click “CHECK” to check for updates

Dell Command Update will then start checking for updates.
If there are any updates a list will appear:

To select only a few updates scroll down to find a list

And to further modify what updates scroll to the bottom and press “VIEW DETAILS”

NOTE:
Some of our users have had issues with no sound on their laptops.
The most common fix has been a driver update. Sound drivers for Dell laptops should look something like this:

Warning!
Some updates are called “BIOS”. These are updates for your computers motherboard. These updates can for instance bring crucial security updates. However, take extreme precaution when installing these as interrupting these updates can render the computer useless by corrupting the underlying firmware. When installing a BIOS-update make sure that the charger is connected at all times and never turn the computer off during this update.

And Dell Command Update might show the following warning message:

Pro tip:
In order to be able to leave the computer during these updates, click the checkmark option called: “Automatically restart system (when required)”

 

When the updates are finished the system will reboot once more and you can now sign in and use the computer normally. If your computer has not been updated in a while, it might be a good idea to see if there are any new updates now that you have restarted. To update again, the steps are exactly as seen above.
