Computer won't start

Sometimes the computer doesn't start or just shows a black screen. The following steps may help you resolve any issues

1. Check the power

   1. Is the computer on? Look for any lights on the computer or if you hear sounds from the fans.

   2. Is the screen on? Check if the screen has a power light (often blue, white, or orange). Press the power button on the screen.

   3. Check the cables: Make sure all cables are securely connected — both between the screen and the computer or dock, and to the power outlet.

2. Restart the computer

   1. Hold the power button on the computer for about 10-15 seconds until it shuts down. Wait a few seconds and press the power button again to restart.

3. Check if the computer responds

   1. Press Caps Lock or Num Lock on the keyboard. If the light turns on/off, it means the computer is on — but the screen may not be working.

4. Check brightness

   1. On laptops, the screen may have been dimmed. Try pressing the brightness up button (often a sun symbol on the function keys).

5. Test with another screen or docking station

   1. If you have access to another screen or a TV with an HDMI input, you can connect the computer there to see if the image appears.
